Beijing 2008 Olympics
The world is now ready for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, but is the city of Beijing ready?
The city of Beijing is ready of course, but it is still in the stage of addressing a number of obstacles more. Two issues that are close to the Chinese authorities now are air pollution and the outsider’s view of the country’s handling of human rights reports.
But the country was quick on the draw and immediately released its human rights records in the run up to the games. And the other issue that is faced by the organizers is the quality of air in Beijing. It was learned that the city failed to meet international air quality standards. It can be remembered that the city said that it will meet the standards as set by the World Health Organization in its bid to win the nomination in 2001. But this issue hasn’t deterred the city of Beijing in order to hosts the Summer Olympics with the least problems possible.
The city insisted that there is still time in order to set the situation right. The city announced that it will be imposing a series of emergency air-quality measures like taking cars off the street so that the Beijing 2008 Olympics will be successful amidst the sweet cool air of Beijing.
